Featured Tutorial — Foil N Emboss.
Learn which foil to use with the Minc or Glimmer, watch me foil and stencil the Diamond Trellis Panel, and see how I touch up tiny foil gaps with a chrome pen.
Foiling Made Simple
Wondering which foil to use on your next card? Start with what’s making the design. Toner-reactive foil sticks to a printed toner design. Hot stamping foil transfers the design from a heated metal plate.
Toner-Reactive Foiling
Use toner-reactive foil with a ready-made toner panel, like our Foil N Emboss Panels, or a design you print with a laser printer.
I use the full-size Minc on heat setting 3 for our panels. I’ve tried other laminators with little success, so the Minc is my go-to. Place the foil pretty side up over the printed design, put it in the carrier folder, and run it through the machine. Peel back the foil to reveal the shine.
Using our Foil N Emboss Panels? Foil first, stencil if you’d like to add color, then emboss with the coordinating folder.
Hot Foil Stamping
Use hot stamping foil with a metal hot foil plate or a press-and-foil plate designed for hot foiling. I use the Spellbinders Glimmer, the only hot foil stamping system I’ve personally used.
With the usual Glimmer setup, the plate design faces up, the foil goes pretty side down against the plate, and the cardstock goes on top. Follow your machine’s instructions for heating and running the layers through a compatible die-cutting machine.
